The wood known by the trade name Ramin comes from various species of the genus Gonystylus, belonging to the Thymelaeaceae family. From an aesthetic point of view, it comes in shades ranging from brown to yellow.
Ramin is characterised by good density and stands out for its high resistance to compression and bending. However, it is not particularly durable over time, has limited stability and shows low impact resistance. Despite this, it is easy to work with thanks to its good mouldability. Due to its poor resistance to external agents, it is used almost exclusively indoors. It is widely used in interior construction, where it is used for furniture, parquet flooring and stairs. It is also processed as solid wood for semi-finished products, such as mouldings, profiles and sticks, or converted into veneers, mainly for interior cladding and decorative panels.
Its use outdoors is not recommended due to its low durability.
