Oriented Strand Board OSB

Company: ,

Category:

OSB (Oriented Strand Board) panels are made by layering long, thin strips of wood in specific directions and bonding them together with synthetic resins. In the outer layers, the chips are oriented longitudinally, while in the middle layer they are positioned perpendicularly, at a 90-degree angle to the others, thus creating a mechanical interlock that gives the panel greater compactness. The production process involves hot pressing under pressure, which fixes the chips in a clearly visible and deliberately coarse manner, giving OSB its characteristic appearance.

This particular arrangement of the elements gives OSB panels remarkable structural strength and greater resistance to bending than normal chipboard panels. Thanks to these qualities, OSB is widely used in construction for flooring, wall and ceiling cladding, as well as in furniture and interior design. It is also a highly valued material for prefabricated houses, furniture and decorative elements, representing a viable alternative to plywood and veneer.

OSB panels are divided into different categories according to their intended use and moisture resistance:

– OSB/1: intended for non-structural use in dry environments, such as furniture and furnishings;

– OSB/2: suitable for load-bearing structures in dry conditions;

– OSB/3: can be used for structural applications even in humid environments;

– OSB/4: designed for intensive use in load-bearing contexts subject to high humidity.
