The American walnut originates from the Midwest and Northeast regions of the United States. It was introduced to Europe around 1900 as a substitute for European walnut.
It is distinguished by an almost white sapwood, while the heartwood varies from light brown to dark brown, maturing to a deep chocolate brown, sometimes tending towards black.
This type of wood is used to make furniture, furnishings, sculptures and musical instruments.
It is not particularly resistant to exposure to atmospheric agents.
