Bodio Nero gneiss is a dark grey stone with a finely flaky texture and a grain that varies from fine to medium. It can be recognised by the presence of light-coloured, slightly lenticular minerals.
Its name derives from the location of the quarry from which it is extracted, near the village of Bodio, in the canton of Ticino in Switzerland. It has a high biotite (dark mica) content, with small grains of yellow-beige titanite distributed evenly throughout.
Its composition is as follows: Approximately 50% feldspar (approximately 40% plagioclase and approximately 10% potassium feldspar), approximately 20% quartz and approximately 15% mica (biotite), approximately 6% green amphibole, approximately 3% titanite and less than 1% zircon.
This gneiss is highly resistant to frost, acids and alkalis.
