Cresciano is a light-coloured gneiss with weak to moderate schistosity and a medium to coarse grain. It is characterised by the presence of both light and dark mica minerals.
Its name derives from the geographical location where it is quarried. The quarries are located south of the Osogna-Cresciano railway station in the canton of Ticino, Switzerland.
Its composition is as follows: approximately 60% feldspar (albite), approximately 20% quartz, approximately 20% mica (more dark biotite than silvery muscovite).
This rock is highly resistant to frost, acids and alkalis.
