WOOD-SKIN pattern consists of a series of millings usually running longitudinally across the surface, despite the simplicity of the geometrical compositions it can be designed and shaped in an unlimited variety of forms. The phase between millings can be customised to create different rhythms and perspectives.
Wood-Skin uses a new family of composite materials with a sandwich structure: two layers of rigid material (MDF) in sheets, enclosing a special textile inside. The digital fabrication process takes place in a single step, transforming the material into a 3D composite sheet that can be ‘programmed’ to take on a specific shape. Starting from a flat state, the material evolves into the third dimension, where it can take on a variety of shapes and functions, limited only by the imagination of the designer, while retaining its structural strength.
