Laminboard

Laminboard consists of three layers: two outer layers with fibres arranged parallel to each other and a central core made of veneer strips oriented perpendicularly, i.e. offset by 90 degrees to the upper layers.

In the centre is a solid layer consisting of strips of wood, up to 8 mm thick, carefully machine-cut and glued together. This core is then covered on both sides with veneers glued crosswise, which improve its structural stability. The core layer is usually made of birch, although other wood species such as okoumé, poplar, fir, Weymouth pine or spruce can also be used. Beech is preferred for the outer surfaces, but birch or spruce can also be used, depending on the intended application.

One of the most appreciated qualities of this type of panel is its dimensional stability: cross-bonding reduces shrinkage and deformation in all directions. The panels are strong, heavy and easy to veneer, with high bending strength thanks to the solid wood core. Protective veneers made of particularly hard and resistant woods are used for outdoor applications.

Laminated plywood is often used in the production of large free-standing furniture, such as doors, structural elements and shelving, and is also widely used in interior design, for example in doors, custom-made furniture, cladding and shelves.
