Lodrino is a grey, moderately schistose gneiss with a fine to medium grain accompanied by light-coloured, finely distributed mica minerals. This rock varies in colour from light to dark. Its name derives from the geographical location of the quarry where it is extracted, near Lodrino, in the Ticino region of Switzerland. It is mainly composed of white feldspar, biotite (dark) and muscovite (light) mica minerals and quartz. It shares the same rock formation as other gneisses in the area, such as Iragna, Bodio Nero and Cresciano. This rock is very resistant to frost, acids and alkalis.
