Walnut has been considered one of the most valuable and prized woods for centuries, particularly for high-quality furniture and interior design.
This wood is characterised by a fine texture and long grain, as well as medium hardness. It is a compression-resistant, tough, flexible material with slight elasticity. Its elegant appearance and naturally dark colour, which can vary considerably from one piece to another, offering unique grain patterns and designs, also contribute to its popularity. When fresh, it has a slightly acrid smell and often has fine central streaks.
Walnut is mainly used indoors, transformed into high-quality veneers for furniture, cladding and designer surfaces. It is also widely used in woodturning and musical instrument making, thanks to its workability and acoustic qualities.
Despite its beauty, walnut wood, especially the sapwood, is not very resistant to weathering and is vulnerable to fungal attack, making it unsuitable for outdoor use without adequate protection.
